CIRCUIT CIVIL MEDIATION CERTIFICATION TRAINING – COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a 40-hour, 5-day program on Zoom, with the first three (3) days being consecutive (“Part 1”), then a break of a few days, then the final two (2) days (“Part 2”). All days are 9:00am – 6:00pm. When you register for Part 1, the entire fee is paid, and you are automatically registered for Part 2. You will receive a Zoom invitation for each Part. Education at the master’s degree level or higher is required to become a Certified Circuit Civil Mediator. This course meets all the learning objectives required by the FL Supreme Court’s Dispute Resolution Center for Circuit Civil Mediator Certification and incorporates recent events as well as the knowledge and experience of the trainers and coaches. The program provides an understanding of mediation theory and practical application for civil cases that are either in Circuit Court or could be brought in Circuit Civil Court if the dispute were to become a lawsuit. Attendees will receive an extensive training manual with all relevant statutes, rules, and references, as well as supplemental material. Online instruction includes topics such as: (1) Mediation concepts, techniques, and strategies; (2) how to mediate with and without attorneys as participants; (3) understanding best practices for pre-suit, voluntary, and court-ordered mediations, (4) how to prepare a settlement agreement; (5) how to evaluate a conflict to see if mediation is the best forum for resolution; and (6) how to handle difficult mediation participants. This program is approved by the Florida Bar for continuing legal education (CLE) credit.
